During our April Market Intelligence Webinar, BFS leaders and Ali Wolf provided an update on the current state of the supply chain and housing market. First, Tim Page shared an update on Digital Solutions and the myBLDR.com platform that was recently introduced at IBS 2024. Steve LaValley provided an in depth look at OSB Composite seasonality and factors that may be affecting the fluctuations in price. Lastly, Jeff Rettig communicated that most of our key suppliers have invested in capital improvements to their facilities over the past couple of years. This has helped ramp up capacity to meet the uptick that we have seen so far in 2024.

 

Once again, Ali Wolf, Chief Economist with Zonda, gave great insights on current housing trends and affordability in the market. March of this year saw the highest number of active listings since March of 2020, but still down 38% from pre-pandemic years. Inventory for new homes has increased from a historical share of 10-15% to now 30% of the inventory in the housing market. She noted that Quick Move Ins are selling out quicker than they can be replaced.
